Team AI Skills Assessment

Measure where your team stands today so you can design enablement programs that close real gaps.

Assessment Dimensions

You cannot improve what you do not measure. Most organizations have a vague sense that some team members use AI more than others, but lack concrete data on skill levels, usage patterns, or the specific gaps holding the team back. Our baseline assessment provides that data. It goes beyond simple surveys to measure actual competency across the dimensions that matter for productive AI adoption.

Competency Survey

We assess AI skills across five levels: awareness (knows AI exists and its general capabilities), experimentation (has tried AI tools occasionally), functional (uses AI regularly for specific tasks), proficient (designs multi-step AI workflows), and expert (trains others and builds AI-powered processes). Each team member is mapped to a level per skill area, creating a detailed competency heat map.

Gap Analysis

The competency survey reveals where your team is today. Gap analysis compares that to where they need to be for your business objectives. If your strategy depends on AI-powered customer service but your support team is at the experimentation level, that is a critical gap. We prioritize gaps by business impact so training budgets go where they matter most.

Adoption Measurement

We measure actual AI tool usage through license utilization data, self-reported frequency surveys, and workflow integration audits. This reveals the difference between teams that have AI access and teams that actually use it. Adoption metrics also identify departments where AI is underutilized despite available tools and training.

Champion Identification

Every organization has informal AI champions: people who have figured out effective AI usage on their own and are already helping colleagues. We identify these individuals through peer nomination, usage data, and skill assessment. Champions become force multipliers in enablement programs, serving as mentors, creating internal resources, and building momentum for adoption.

What We Measure

Our assessment covers both breadth and depth of AI skills. Breadth measures how many AI use cases a person can handle: prompting, workflow design, tool selection, data privacy awareness, and output verification. Depth measures sophistication within each area: can they write a basic prompt, or can they design a multi-step chain with error handling and structured output?

We also measure attitudes and barriers. Some team members resist AI out of concern about job displacement, data privacy, or quality issues. Others are enthusiastic but lack structured skills. The assessment captures these attitudes because effective enablement addresses both skill gaps and mindset barriers.

Assessment is not evaluation. We emphasize to participants that the assessment is about identifying training needs, not measuring individual performance. This framing produces more honest responses and higher participation rates.

Deliverables

The assessment produces a comprehensive report that includes a team-wide competency heat map showing skill levels by role and department, a prioritized gap analysis with specific training recommendations, an adoption dashboard showing tool utilization rates, a list of identified AI champions with their areas of expertise, and a recommended enablement roadmap with timeline and resource requirements. The report is designed for both executive summary consumption and detailed planning use.

Who This Is For

Baseline assessments are the starting point for any structured AI enablement effort. They are especially valuable for organizations planning to invest in AI training, companies evaluating AI tool purchases, HR and L&D teams designing AI curricula, and executives who need data to justify AI enablement budgets. The assessment typically takes two to three weeks from design to delivery.
